Determined to develop the lightest running shoe of all time, Bill Bowerman switched the leather upper for a lightweight nylon construction. Introduced as “the world’s lightest running shoe,” the Nike Nylon Cortez proved popular in classic white and also with blue colorways. First produced in the early 70s in a range of traditional range of several University colors, it wasn’t until 1979-80 the Nike introduced the best-selling Nylon Cortez in University of North Carolina original colors.
