Following the highly successful and best-selling LDV that started in 1977, Nike started testing the shoes – originally made of mesh uppers – with nylon uppers for athletes and pro runners as Special Make Ups in 1979-80, following the success of the Elite and Tailwind. As Nike was developing other models for their running line, they just decided to produce an LDV Nylon for general release in one color way in 1981.
